Convert any Panopto lecture to a study guide in five minutes
Why Panopto is special
Panopto is the most common lecture-capture system in U.S. medical schools. It's also the most resistant to the "paste a YouTube link" workflow because the video URLs are usually session-bound and the player handles auth via cookies. Some schools allow direct downloads; most don't.
SlydeMe handles Panopto in two modes: direct URL paste (when the school allows it) and a saved-file upload fallback for locked LMS embeds.
Mode 1: Direct URL paste
If you can right-click on the Panopto player and "copy video URL," paste it directly into SlydeMe. Works for most public-facing course pages. Doesn't work if the URL only resolves while you're authenticated to your school's SSO.
Mode 2: Save then upload
For locked embeds, you'll need to save a local copy first:
- Confirm your institution's acceptable-use policy and Panopto's terms of service permit saving the recording. If you're not sure, ask your professor or the course administrator before going further.
- While the lecture is playing in your browser, use a free third-party browser extension to capture the stream to an .mp4. Options: Video DownloadHelper (works on both Chrome and Firefox, most reliable on locked HLS streams), or FetchV (Chrome only; sometimes saves audio and video as separate files, in which case upload both and SlydeMe will combine them).
- Drop the .mp4 onto SlydeMe's upload tab.
You're responsible for confirming you have the right to save and process the recording. SlydeMe is not affiliated with these tools and does not develop or distribute them; use of any third-party extension is governed by its own terms. If your institution restricts downloads or your school's policy is silent, ask before saving.
Time budget
Direct URL: paste, walk away, get an email in 1-10 minutes. Saved upload: 1-2 minutes to capture the stream, 1-10 minutes to process, including the upload. Either way, you spend less time prepping than your old "transcribe by hand" workflow took for a single 5-minute clip.
